Installation
Guide
The
following instructions and subsequent diagrams are standard fitting
procedures for non load-bearing windows only. This method is to
be used in accordance with Conservation of Fuel and Power Document
L1 as set out by Government legislation and Building Control.
1: Check that the damp proof course has been installed and not
damaged. Repair or replace as necessary.
2: If a cill is required, attach to frame by screwing from underneath.
Seal between cill and frame with silicone in front and behind the
screw line. Place a sealant across the end of the cill.
3: If frame fixing bolts are used, drill the holes through the
frame from the outside to inside before placing in position. This
ensures a clean hole for the fixing head.
4: Place the window into position and level and square by using
temporary wedges.
5: Drill the brickwork with a masonry drill. Corner fixings
should be a minimum of 150mm and a maximum of 250mm in from the
external corner. Intermediate fixings should be at centres no greater
than 600mm. The same spacings are to be used for the frame fixing
brackets.
6: Place permanent blocks as to the drawings on the following
pages, allowing for expansion of the profile. These blocks should
not be made of timber.
7: Position the frame fixings and tighten, then remove the temporary
wedges.
8: Any fixings that have had to be through the bottom of the
frame should be sealed to stop the penetration of water.
9: To allow for expansion and contraction there should be a
gap all around the outer frame and the building structure. A flexible
filler should be inserted into this gap.
10: Place masking tape on the frame and fill the gap with a
low modulus sealant. Tool smooth as to the manufacturers instructions
then remove the masking tape immediately.
11: Allow the sealant to set and then clean the window with
household detergent, or a very fine water based cream cleaner.
